Senior projects are coming up quick, even as quick as this upcoming Saturday. November 4, Emily Bentz will be hosting a Sock Hop. What is a Sock Hop you may ask yourself? Well, I’ll tell you. A Sock Hop is basically a fundraiser for the Clock Tower Project. This project is to restore the old clock tower that used to sit among the old City Hall building.  Did I mention she is doing this all by herself?
The Sock Hop will be a 50’s dance that will include many activities. These activities include a 50’s drive in, a 25 cent Hoola Hoop Contest, a 50’s diner, live music,  50/50 raffle and even a cardboard box car contest ages 10 & under, which is a 2 dollar entry fee at the door. There is also food for purchase. These activities seem spectacular. I would have never came up with such an intellectual yet fun project.
The project will be at 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Christian Alliance Church, 1608 Conwell Avenue, Willard, Ohio 44890. If you would like to get to know more about this fundraiser you cand find it on facebook  @ClockTowerSockHopFundraiser  or you can visit her website (WWW.Willardsockhop.weebly.com). All of these proceeds go towards this project. Anyone can come and enjoy this great Senior Project.
The paper behind the scene of the project is all about importance of restoring historical culture and heritage. She believes it is important to push students to be creative and for them to be able to share intellectual interests with individuals. She had picked this project because she has always loved heritage and culture. She also enjoyed that she will be able to bring the community together for a good cause. Emily researched how heritage culture affects us as humans and the changes it brings. She also researched what it is, because a lot of people do not comprehend what is being said.
I encourage everyone to visit this Sock Hop, not only due to it being a good cause but, because it will be loads of fun and entertainment to come together with your community and get to know the people in it.

Middle School Pep Rally!

Hey Flashes! Once again we have ourselves another Pep Rally! We watched students against staff in head to head battles to win it all! A certain selection of students had the opportunity to play games against the teachers. They faced a certain amount of challenges as teams, teachers vs students! We did a great job going crazy for our team! Challenges included an Oreo competition, a Marshmallow challenge, and to top it all off, a cup stacking race! We also had the opportunity to listen to the Willard High School Band. They performed a few stand tunes with some of the Willard Middle School band members. We hope you all enjoyed this crazy Pep Rally!

Willard Middle School Cross Country

cross-country-running-clipart-4ib4e7kRT.jpeg
This years Willard Middle School Cross Country teams season is coming to a close. This year has been better than past years, placing in the top fifteen runners in every race in which they competed. I had the opportunity to have a few words with some of the players and hear what they thought of their team. Let’s see what they said.

I got to interview two of the eighth grade runners, Fernando Huerta and Jordan Sweet, who have been running cross country for two years now. “We had a rough start, but towards the end we started practicing really hard and began to place higher in the races” Fernando Huerta stated about this year’s cross country team. Jordan Sweet responded, “Great, because we have a lot of great runners and have been practicing very hard.” The Willard Middle School’s Cross Country team will soon be competing in the district championship meet. So make sure you wish them luck as they compete for our school! Go Flashes!

Academic Challenge?!

Have you guys heard about Academic Challenge? I bet you are thinking, why would anyone want to do more schoolwork, after school? Well, Academic Challenge is so much fun. We don't do worksheets like you're probably thinking of. We watch the news, we play fun games, read books, and other cool things.
We bring food and eat it while watching the news. Lots of laughter and hard work is put into this extracurricular activity. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we gather in either Mr von Kamp's or Mr. Napier's room. It's a lot of fun but it's serious too. You have to be able to learn new things very quickly. We will have competitions, and other things. It is a lot of fun, but you have to be willing to put in the hard work and effort.
Right now we are in the process of reading "How They Choked". It is about famous people in History that failed. The point that the book it making is that everyone fails, even the most successful people. You should check out "How They Choked". You'll probably really like it.

Middle School Football

The 7th & 8th grade middle school football teams have been through a lot these past couple years. This year has been extraordinarily different.  You may sit and wonder to yourself, why? Well, I had the opportunity to have a chat with a few of the coaches and a couple of the players to react to all of our questions. Please, stay awhile, and read all about how and why this year was about to change dramatically.
Our astounding coaches, Tom Crawford and Ryan Bond, Have been there for these players through thick and thin. These coaches enjoy teaching young student athletes the extracurriculars they loved growing up. They wish to make football more enjoyable for all of the players. Mr. Crawford and Mr. Bond have agreed all students must have obtainable grades such as A’s, B’s and or C’s, and if they have not reached this goal they will come to a so called “study table” to do missing work, study for tests, basically just work to boost grades. These coaches make more and more progress every single days
As of our players, the 8th grade and 7th grade have combined due to a shortage of our 8th grade players. A lot of the students have came to a conclusion that the coaches try to push the team to the best of their abilities. Their offense and defense could use a little bit of work but if they work themselves just enough they can become better as a whole. They enjoy after school practice, and they should know to the fact of them having it five days a week. These players work extremely hard and try to achieve their goals through the season and even out of it.

Halloween Dance!

Image result for halloween pics

It is officially October Flashes, which means Halloween is right around the corner! Willard Middle School will be celebrating Halloween with a Halloween Dance! The dance will be held October twenty-sixth in the Hass Commons.
This year is going to spookier than ever with the new terrifying Haunted Hallway. There will also be music, snacks, drinks, and other fun activities. Today I spoke with the Student Council Vice President Ellen Fox about the dance. “I think this year, with the haunted hallway, will be spectacular!” Student Council Vice President Ellen Fox said. The estimated cost of the dance will be three dollars with a costume and four dollars without a costume. So remember on October twenty-sixth in the Hass Commons to come to the Halloween dance.
