Baker to Teach Students at the Reenactment in May

This year's reenactment and encampment is going to be better than ever with more volunteers from places near and far.  Over the next several weeks, we'll be posting about the different volunteers and businesses assisting the 8th grade Revolutionary War Reenactment and Encampment on May 11 and 12.
Brøt of Ashland, Ohio is run by Michael Zickefoose and he will be teaching bread making to students on Friday and Saturday.
Brøt Baking is a one-man cottage industry baking endeavor bringing small batch artisan bread loaves from our kitchen to your table.
Be sure to bring a little extra cash to pick up a loaf or two of his traditional loaves of bread and support his business as he suppports our program.

Art Club by Merilee Behrendsen

Recently, our middle school art teacher Miss. Smith has opened up an Art Club for grades 7-12. We meet every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 4:30 after school. Art Club is a fun after school activity both for the students that participate and for Miss. Smith. “I did an after schools art club at my old school and I loved it. This school didn't have many art programs and I wanted to do something extra.” Smith explains. We do various art projects for school needs or fun projects that are enjoyable.
In Art Club we have done fundraisers for this year’s reenactment and for the Art Club funds, for example making cards and ornaments for the Christmas season. Most of my favorite cards were mostly puns and little jokes. When we were doing ornaments, We were taught to smooth out the edges of the clay or else it would be like broken glass, very sharp. This year we made a Thanksgiving feast for display in the cafetorium, these are the same displays that we used for the Grinch theme hallway during Christmas. We were very much in the Christmas season in art club crafts, we decorated the seventh and sixth grade teachers’ doors on our own flash time.
Most of our first times with clay was learning about the proper way to throw on the wheel. My experience with clay was fun and like anyone else’s first time, very satisfying, yet very difficult if you wanted to master it. With our ugg mugs, we got to make whatever we wanted as a mug. This was one of my favorite projects that we’ve done because we got freedom on what we wanted to do on our mugs. We were so caught up in clay some of us started to make spoons, forks, and adorable little poop figures. This project was some of the worst days to wear white because of the clay we were using, also known as red clay that you would see in between your nails after a nice day of claying.

Mathathon by Kennedy Collins

On Friday, March 9th, Mr. Gladden’s algebra students participated in a “Mathathon” to help younger students with their math problems. Each elementary student participating had a small booklet, each page with a different type of problem. Some were puzzles, others a little more simple. The students that went got to snack on Goldfish crackers after helping out. All in all, I think most of us had a fun time. It’s always nice to lend a helping hand whenever possible. It was certainly a good way to demonstrate some Flashes P.R.I.D.E., and set an example for the younger kids.

Middle School Track?!

                                                                                                                    Image result for tracks

As you may have heard, Middle School and high school track has started up again! I'm certainly excited. 7th and 8th graders are ready to run, jump, and throw. "The first few practices have been a blast!" says one 8th grade girl. A 7th-grade boy saying "My legs have never been so sore!" Although all of our legs were sore the first few practices, they will be getting better and we'll be running faster than ever. It's going to be a fun, yet hardworking year.
You don't need special shoes to run either. You just need you, your legs, motivation/determination and tennis shoes!
It's not too late to join. If you're interested in running, throwing or jumping in Willard track, see Mr.Crawford or Mr. Bond. You'll be surprised how much fun you'll have. In fact, get your friends to come out too!
